FRACTILE

Motivating geometry as a mathematical mosaic, the Fractile was designed by Balmond in 1996 to cover the façade of the Victoria and Albert Museum Spiral extension. Part of the AGU’s investigations into aperiodic tiling, it illustrates the sequential nature of the building’s spiral form and began with the study of mathematician Robert Ammann’s two-dimensional system.
