Cinnamon Life at the City of Dreams, the latest John Keels Lifestyle project, opened in Colombo this week designed by Balmond Studio.
The one billion dollar project comprises a large five-star hotel, conference facilities, retail, a ten thousand square metre casino, apartment blocks and an office tower plus an exhibition centre. Cinnamon Life is a five million square feet integrated resort. The iconic design will make Colombo and Sri Lanka a pre-eminent hub in the international world for business, leisure, and entertainment.
Balmond Studio was appointed for all design services including Architecture, Engineering, and Project Management. The studio also carried out the Interior Design of all the public areas including the design of specialist lighting installations for all lobbies and ballrooms in the cantilevers.
Balmond says,
“The external shapes of Cinnamon Life are a compilation of stepped geometries arising from the abstract of a circle within a square. The projections balance the horizontal spread of the building elevation, and the façade moves in and out of the plane to break up reflected light to animate this backdrop.”
Reflecting on the interiors, Cecil states,
“The interior design of Cinnamon Life is a vibration of the sculptural external forms. In a matrix of colour and serial mapping, that is not conventional decoration, an evolving pattern breaks down spaces into a serial spread of events.”
Sri Lanka dreamt once on an unprecedented scale in Anuradhapura with projects such as Ruwanweliseya and Jetavanaramaya and its inventions with the technology of the time. The epic scale of such construction and its ground-breaking ambitions are now realised once again in a contemporary setting, uniquely, in this City of Dreams.
