ARPEGGIO

A climactic art piece, Arpeggio introduces a sense of drama at the newly reopened main stationhouse of the historic Chicago Wilson Station.

The piece is an illuminated geometric sculpture, fractal in nature, twisting and turning in interdimensional layers. The Art Deco inspired styling is a nod to the style dominant in historic architecture of Uptown. The fractal and its organisation reflecting the more modern concept of an animate geometry. The name hints at a visual interpretation of the arpeggio chord, also an acknowledgment of the neighbourhood’s reputation in Jazz music history.

Balmond was chosen from over 200 applicants to create a work of public art specifically for the $203 million Wilson Station reconstruction project. Arpeggio symbolises the aspirations of the project and the city as well.
